Chocolate Monkey Smoothie

WP_20140304_11_39_07_ProThis smoothie recipe was inspired by my classmates from highschool, Jerilyn and Marina. We made chocolate monkeys with bananas, chocolate ice cream and chocolate syrup. They were really good. I wanted to make a vegan-friendly and healthier alternative though!

Cocoa powder

Cocoa powder

What you need:

  • 3 bananas
  • 1 tbsp of cocoa or carob powder (I only have cocoa)
  • 1/4 cup of coconut sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups of coconut water

Yields: about 25 ounces of deliciousness

Coconut sugar

What you do:

Before you start, put your smoothie container (or glass) in the freezer so it’s nice and cold when you put your smoothie in it.

The coconut water should reach the top of the bananas approximately.

The coconut water should reach the top of the bananas approximately.

The order of adding things is kind of important, especially if you don’t have a high-powered blender.

Add bananas to blender, then add coconut water. The coconut water should reach the top of the bananas approximately (see photo).

Add cocoa powder (or carob) and coconut sugar. Blend on high for a minute or so.

This is truly a delicious little treat. Tell me what you think in the comments below!

It wouldn’t all fit in my container, but holy moly, it’s delicious.
